Yup Yup Yup

I don't know who this guy is but he's quickly turning into my favorite thing on youtube:

We need to get this guy at Evo or something.

Derek, my main man! Or... not... Anyway, I wanted to ask you some questions, that I hope you'll be able to answer.

I'm in my Junior year of high school, meaning I'm going to be looking at colleges and stuff, soon.

I was wondering if you could tell me about each of the different branches of game development, so that maybe I could decide what I want to do in video games. And, what kind of colleges (names? please!) should I be looking at that can teach me what I need to know.

Dude, you're a stalker.

Fuck you. I just don't know anyone else to talk to that works in the industry that could actually answer these questions.

Ok, dude, chill out. You're making a lot of subtle mistakes and they add up. You don't have to take my advice but i'm just trying to help you out.

First off, Omar works at a major video game studio and insulting someone in his position is a terrible approach to networking. I would apologize to him and then avoid bothering him. Cuz at this point, he's probably not gonna go out of his way to help you. But at least you can make sure that if he ever has a say in whether or not you get a job, that he doesn't go out of his way to hurt your chances.

Second, there's a whole list of links to game developers' blogs on the right. It's not like you're best friends with Derek so it's a little weird that you're afraid to ask other people for advice. In fact if i was in your position and someone called me a stalker, i would stay the hell away for a few months just to let that rep fade.

Third, here's some info that relates to your questions.

You need to pay attention to that part where he says "please, for the love of all that is holy, do not be clingy." Cuz it makes you look like a stalker.

But hey, it your life. Good luck.

First off, I don't read his blog or anything, so you can't exactly blame me for not knowing what he does for a living.

Second, I never even hinted that Derek was my best friend. To be more precise, what I mean by "know" is... More like... The only one who isn't overwhelmed by comments that I've actually managed to get a reply back, before. Honestly, I really don't give a fuck if Omar SERIOUSLY thinks I'm a stalker. Because... I'm not. I asked Derek some motherfucking questions, how does that make me a stalker? I don't need to "stay away" for a few months because I asked a few questions.

Who says "please, for the love of all that is holy, do not be clingy.", on that note, I had no idea what you were talking about. You completely lost me. But I assume that you're also implying that I'm being "clingy"? What the fuck is that? How am I "clinging" to Derek...?

I hope you guys get that.... All I did was ask a few questions and calling me a clingy stalker honestly is fucking random and makes no sense...

Man, Devin, you just don't get it. Here's some advice: Learn some people skills; learn how to talk to people; learn how to communicate and take constructive criticism; lose the attitude--you're just a punk kid right now; respect your elders and ESPECIALLY those that are established in the video game industry.

I suggest you apologize to Omar AND Derek since this is his blog.

And another thing: if that's the response you're going to give when someone calls you a name or labels you as such, you'll never make it anywhere in this industry. Instead of responding like a punk kid, reiterate what your goals are and explain your passions. There's nothing wrong with being persistent...you just have to know how to approach every situation.

This is not the ideal way. You don't want to burn bridges before you even get into the industry.

I also would just like to say "fuck you" to Omar! You know what you did!!

I do apologize to Derek. But as of now, not to Omar.

Please... Explain to me how calling me stalker is constructive criticism in even the least apprehensible sense.

If you knew any logic, you might understand that just because someone has lived longer than me, that doesn't mean that they're wiser or better in any way. I know plenty of people older than me that just drown their sorrows in drugs and alcohol. There isn't any way I'd ever respect them.

A punk kid? I find that funny.

I can take constructive criticism. But if someone calls me a stalker out of no where, for basically no reason at all. I'm not going to take their bullshit and swallow it with a smile.

I'm not burning any bridge. If anything, I'm changing my mind and deciding to take a different path than the humble servant who doesn't speak his mind.

My passions? Well, that wouldn't really help me decide which branch of game development I'd like to go into. I mean, my passions for games as of now, is just playing them.

Devin. Do yourself a favor and take what you said right here and commit it to memory. Don't forget this moment ever. Think about that sentence above long and hard. Remember how you felt when you wrote it. Remember how adamant you were when you had this thought. Commit to memory your feelings at this very moment on this subject.

Then, when you're 30, think about that sentence again. You'll feel drastically different, trust me. Most teenagers hate hearing this, but everyone of us thought the same way when we were your age, and now at 30, we know we were being foolish.

What an epic battle

Hehe... Yeah, I know. I've met those people. I'm not like them, or how they were. I know that I'll change. But... Well, I know you can't really have any reason to believe me, since you don't know me... But... Well, I guess I'll stop there so I'm not wasting any more of my wireless keyboard's batteries.... *sigh*
