2006 Average Game Salaries

Every year these come out and every year it gets me all fired up for one reason or another. Supposedly the average salary actually dropped compared to 2005. I'm sure profits for games probably went up though.

According to Game Developer magazine - it breaks down like this:

Business & Legal: $95,596
Programmers: $80,886
Production Personnel: $77,131
Audio: $69,935
Artists: $65,107
Game Designer: $61,538
QA: $37,861

So as you can see - testers have it the worst off. I think this is pretty much widely known and if not, sure in the hell should be. Testing is a terrible job.

However - a game designer, such as myself - I am the 2nd lowest on the food chain. Sweet!

Also according to the same survey - only 1 out of 3 can afford to own a home.

No answer or replies to me? Okay, whatever the reason, I can wait. I mostly wanted to know what you thought of my very amateur review and to know if whatever that count-down is for, if it will cost me any money to experience as the hard-core God Of War fan that I am.

That comment was just to see what that whole "other" option in the comments did, what difference it made. Apparently none. Shit, I'm bored...

Christ, Devin - stalk much ... How much does a PR or Marketing person make?

Haha... I was just joking... Messing with people like that is creepy, but extremely funny...

The count-down ends tonight... Woot...

Wow. Average? I'd be interested in seeing the median numbers for the top 10% and top 1%. Those are slave wages IMO compared to comparable industries, at least for programmers. =(

Well, the count-down ended, although at first it did not work as it was supposed to. There were some cool videos and then a little story with a wallpaper. It's kinda cool, I guess. But it doesn't seem like something that needs a count-down... Is there something I'm missing? And I don't see how it relates to "...It's for true God Of War fans... ... Think of the original God Of War..."

I figured out that you can spell Kratos with words around the white text, and now... I'm at that bitch of a puzzle, it pisses me off. It's really hard, I dunno, maybe I'll get it eventually...

LB - hit me up on SRK and I'll kick down to you.

Devin: HUGS

Faith: PR/Marketing tend to make much more. They also don't have to work 100 hour weeks like people in development have to. It's a much better job - take it.
